Job purpose

The Chief Medical Officer represents the highest clinical position at Fair Haven Community Health Care. The person who holds this position is responsible for the strategy, quality, scope and breadth of the clinical services provided by FHCHC to all patients.

Duties and responsibilities

As a key senior executive team member, the Chief Medical Officer will serve as a champion to drive clinical excellence, quality improvement, and system-wide prioritization of patient safety while exceeding patient expectations for the overall care experience. Duties of a Chief Medical Officer may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Participation on the Executive Management Team. The Chief Medical Officer will join the CEO, VP of Finance, VP of Administration, Compliance Officer, VP of Business Development, and Chief Operating Officer on the Senior Executive Management Team. This team meets weekly and as needed to address challenges, demands, and strategy for the organization.
  • Oversight of each Clinical Department: Medicine, Behavioral Health and Dental. The Director of Medicine, the Director of Behavioral Health and the Dental Director report to the Chief Medical Officer. Director of Nursing is a direct report. The Chief Medical Officer will ensure that each program is adequately staffed, oversees recruitment of all clinical providers, pursues programs consistent with the mission of FHCHC, and has appropriate quality programs in place.
  • Meets regularly with clinical directors.
  • Participates in the organizational QI oversight committee.
  • Working closely with the Executive Management Team, has responsibility for establishing productivity and quality measures and determining protocols aimed at supporting all providers with the needed tools to achieve goals.
  • Chair, Credentialing and Privileging Committee.
  • Responsible for oversight, strategy and integration of all clinical programs, including but not limited to Care Coordination, HIV, Diabetes, WIC/Family Visiting Program/Healthy Start, addiction medicine, specialty services and clinical service lines.
  • Oversee and approve all collaborative clinical workflows, which may include new workflows with the hospital, state, community organizations or EHR-related tasks. Liaises with community partners.
  • Advocacy at the city, state and national levels. Like all Community Health Centers, FHCHC is dependent on support from government to carry out its mission. The Chief Medical Officer will play a key role in this effort and that role might include serving on relevant committees, seeking out legislators to ensure that they understand the complex issues associate with healthcare delivery, etc.
  • It is expected that the Chief Medical Officer see patients at least 1 day a weekly and accomplish other duties in the remaining 80% or less FTE time each week. The VPCA is expected to participate in both CME and enhanced leadership training annually and is provided an annual stipend to do this.

Qualifications

MD with prior management experience. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator with relationship-centered interpersonal skill, detail oriented, financial fluent with hands- on leadership style. Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable.
