About the Georgia Tech Library

The Georgia Tech Library is a member of the University System of Georgia library consortia, Atlanta Regional Council for Higher Education (ARCHE), the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), and the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL), and the Association for College and Research Libraries (ACRL). The Georgia Tech Library has a unique and progressive service model that relies heavily on technology and electronic formats. Electronic resources account for 79% of our overall content, 98% of the Library's content expenditures and 99% of our content usage and the majority of our print collections are held in a high-density, climate-controlled storage facility in collaboration with Emory University Libraries. Job Summary

The Library ( at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia invites applications for an innovative librarian who will manage and support institutional repository initiatives to preserve and sustain long-term access to Georgia Tech scholarship and research outputs in digital form. This position reports to the Head of the Archives, Records Management, and Digital Curation Department. The Librarian will participate in library-wide committees, activities, and working groups, and in meetings, workshops, and training, for continued professional development, to remain informed and engaged with relevant current trends.

This is a 12-month non-tenure track faculty position with an effort distribution of 80% librarianship, 10% scholarship and creative endeavors, and 10% professional service to the library profession. Up to two (2) years' credit for previous professional experience may be given at the time of employment, in which case such credit will be stated in the offer letter.

The Georgia Tech Library Faculty may enjoy flexible work schedules, teleworking (up to 2 days post training), professional development, and a healthy work-life balance. This is not a remote position, but some teleworking hours are supported.

Responsibilities

Provide and improve library services and resources; enrich the research, learning, and scholarship of the Georgia Tech community through the following:



80% Librarianship

  • Manages the Institutional Repository Service.
  • Implements best practices for digital preservation, metadata standards, and open access principles for preserving, describing, and delivering Institute scholarship and research outputs in digital form, based on professional good practice and collaboration with colleagues.
  • Co-leads the Georgia Tech Digital Repository (institutional repository) with Digital Curation Archivist, works with vendors, and local IT to manage, maintain, and enhance repository services.
  • Assists with the identification and recruitment of content for curated scholarly collections, soliciting materials to enhance the scholarly record of the Institute.
  • Consults with the Head of Archives, Records Management, and Digital Curation and Digital Curation Archivist concerning digital collections, systems, and other related matters.
  • Serves as Product Owner for key digital curation systems and tools (DSpace, OSF for Institutions, ORCID, and DataCite) supporting the Institutional Repository Service.

10% Scholarship and Creative Endeavors

  • According to expectations for library faculty members, contribute professionally through research, scholarship, and creative activities.

10% Service to the Library, Institute and Archival Profession

  • Foster positive relations with faculty, students, and staff and promote the Institute and Library.
  • Serve on library and university committees as assigned.
  • Contribute to the profession through service to professional organizations at the local, state, regional, and national levels, as appropriate.

Required Qualifications

This position vacancy will be filled at the rank of Librarian I, Librarian II, Librarian III, or Librarian IV. The final job offer will be dependent on candidate qualifications in alignment with Non-tenure Track Academic Faculty ranks as outlined in section 3.2.2 of the Georgia Tech Faculty Handbook-

Librarian I

  • Appointment to this rank requires an appropriate terminal degree, typically an American Library Association (ALA) - accredited master's degree, a degree in a subject related to archival work, and/or in the appropriate area of specialization. Additional expertise and/or experience may be required for specific positions.

Librarian II

  • Appointment to this rank requires an appropriate terminal degree, typically an American Library Association (ALA) - accredited master's degree, a degree in a subject related to archival work, and/or in the appropriate area of specialization.
  • Evidence of scholarship and/or evidence of service to the librarian profession.
  • 5 years of professional experience

Librarian III

  • Appointment to this rank requires an appropriate terminal degree, typically an American Library Association (ALA) - accredited master's degree, a degree in a subject related to archival work, and/or in the appropriate area of specialization.
  • A strong record of scholarship and service demonstrating significant contributions to the librarian/archivist profession.
  • 10 years of professional experience

Librarian IV

  • Appointment to this rank requires an appropriate terminal degree, typically an American Library Association (ALA) - accredited master's degree, a degree in a subject related to archival work, and/or in the appropriate area of specialization.
  • A strong record of scholarship and service demonstrating the highest standards of professional contributions to the librarian profession and are recognized widely by peers.
  • 15 years of professional experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years experience with institutional repositories including the ability to implement best practices for digital preservation, metadata standards, and open access principles.
  • Proficiency in using repository platforms such as DSpace, Fedora, Digital Commons, or similar systems.
  • 2 years experience working closely with researchers to identify and recruit scholarly publications and other locally created research outputs for preservation and long-term access.
  • 2 years experience using repository metadata schemas such as Dublin Core, METS, PREMIS.
  • 1 year experience utilizing persistent identifier schemas such as ORCID, DOI, or other related schemas.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current national data content and structure standards related to the curation of digital materials; and
  • 2 years professional experience in academic libraries.

Proposed Salary

This is a benefits-eligible position with a range of $69,185-108,304 commensurate with education and experience.
