Job Description

The Orthopedic Technician provides essential support and care to patients requiring orthopedic services in an outpatient or inpatient medical setting. Under the general supervision of licensed personnel, the Orthopedic Technician assists with a variety of tasks to ensure quality patient care and efficient operation of the orthopedic department.

Key Responsibilities:

- Patient Care Support:

- Assist licensed personnel in the application and removal of casts, splints, braces, and other orthopedic devices.

- Provide patient education on the care and maintenance of orthopedic devices and overall orthopedic health.

- Monitor and report any changes in patient condition or any adverse reactions to orthopedic devices to licensed staff.

- Clinical Duties:

- Prepare and maintain the orthopedic treatment area, ensuring all equipment and supplies are sanitized and in proper working order.

- Assist with minor orthopedic procedures as directed by licensed personnel.

- Ensure accurate documentation of patient care activities and orthopedic procedures in the medical record.

- Administrative Support:

- Maintain inventory of orthopedic supplies and equipment, notifying appropriate personnel when replenishment is needed.

- Coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless patient care and efficient scheduling of orthopedic services.

- Perform clerical duties as needed, including patient registration and appointment scheduling.

- Compliance and Safety:

- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, including those related to patient privacy and infection control.

- Maintain a safe and clean working environment, following all safety protocols and reporting any hazards to supervisory personnel.

- Stay current with continuing education requirements and maintain all necessary certifications.

Qualifications:

- Education:

- High school graduate or equivalent.

- Experience:

- Minimum of one year of experience as an Orthopedic Technician.

- Experience in a hospital setting is desired.

- Licenses/Certificates:

- Current certification as an Orthopedic Technician.

- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
