The salary range for this position is $5,666.67 - $6,166.67 per month depending upon qualifications and is non-negotiable.

The mission of Global Campus at San Diego State University is “To be a world leader in delivering innovative educational experiences to all learners, expanding opportunity and transforming lives.” Global Campus serves as a principal University liaison with the greater San Diego community and provides a wide variety of academic and professional, credit and noncredit educational experiences designed to fit the lifestyle and expectations of international students, working adults and other lifelong learners. In addition, Global Campus provides a range of academic and special programs for individuals and groups at various times, in various locations, and via various modalities, including technology-based programs. Global Campus serves audiences including the workforce, military, working adults and international constituencies.

The Social Media Strategist develops engaging and informative content that aligns with the organization's brand, communication, and marketing goals, and is responsible sharing that content on websites, social media, blog posts, digital marketing, videos, etc.

The ideal candidate for this role should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. They should also have a deep understanding of AP style, clear and concise communication, digital marketing, search engine optimization (SEO), social media trends, and social media platforms.

Responsibilities
The Social Media Strategist is responsible for but not limited to:

Core Responsibilities 95%
  • Plan and create engaging, on-brand content for various platforms such as website, social media, blog, etc.
  • Collaborate with Global Campus and SDSU teams to create content that aligns with the organization's goals and brand identity, drives engagement, and creates awareness of the organization and its programs.
  • Edit and proofread content for accuracy, grammar, and style.
  • Optimize content for search engines and social media platforms to increase visibility and reach.
  • Monitor and report content performance metrics such as views, engagement, and conversion rates to inform future content strategies.
  • Stay up to date with digital marketing and social media trends and technologies to continuously improve content creation skills.
  • Research social media trends and inform management of changes that are relevant to the organization's marketing activities.
  • Design graphics, capture, and edit photos and videos for specific platforms/uses that adhere to brand guidelines and meet platform performance guidelines.
  • Proactively address program needs, facilitate approvals, and actively participate in meetings to ensure partner satisfaction with strategy and implementation.

Qualifications
Knowledge & Abilities
  • Proven experience as a content creator, social media professional, copywriter, or similar role
  • Experience with social media platforms and content promotion. Ability to create engaging and compelling content.
  • Knowledge of SEO and content marketing strategies.
  • Creative mindset with the ability to think outside the box and develop innovative content ideas
  • Proficient in content promotion, social media analytics, and reporting tools.
  • Hands-on experience with Content Management Systems (e.g. WordPress), social media platforms (e.g. Meta, LinkedIn, YouTube, SproutSocial, etc.) and project management tools (e.g. Asana, Basecamp, etc.)
  • Experience with relevant software, including social media management tools, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and others.
  • Time-management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Portfolio of published articles or other content.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong collaboration skills.
  • Excellent customer service.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
  • Three-years of related professional or technical experience.

Preferred Qualifications & Special Skills
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of public affairs and/or media relations, and/or some exposure to marketing and marketing research.
  • Work experience in higher education is preferred.
  • Extra attention will be paid to applicants with strong examples of previous experience in social media management that can be demonstrated in a media sample or portfolio.
